Author: Dr. Anne Wilkinson

Blood is a specialized fluid in your body that has four main components, each with a different function: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Watch this video to learn more about how these components work.

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Author: Dr. Anne Wilkinson

A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia. A complete blood count test measures several components and features of your blood, including: Red blood cells, which carry oxygen.

Total Leukocyte Count

Author: Dr. Anne Wilkinson

Principle of TLC Blood Test: The total number of leukocytes WBC per mm3 of blood is determined by diluting known volume of blood 20 times with fluid, which prevents hemolysis and coagulation. The blood cells are then counted in the volume of diluted blood in Neubauer’s counting chamber or Haemocytometer. The number of WBCS per mm3 of the undiluted blood is then determined by this method.
